Understanding billing and usage
Understand plan allowances for tracked prompts, workspaces, and AI platforms, protected legacy plans, pooled usage, recovery windows, and subscription changes.
Compare Starter, Agency, and Agency Pro on the pricing page. The offer and agreement confirmed at checkout determine your purchased package. Enterprise requirements can be discussed with sales.
This article explains Billing for existing accounts, including earlier packages and protected subscriptions. Your purchased terms and the allowances shown in your own Billing page determine your access; a plan name alone does not identify your package.
Open Billing from the Settings group to see your plan, allowances, enabled AI platforms, invoices, and pooled usage. Billing has its own /billing page; the older /usage route redirects there.
Paid self-serve packages
Section titled “Paid self-serve packages”When Billing identifies your purchase as the paid self-serve package, the following organization-wide allowances apply. Availability begins after the offer is released; these terms do not convert an earlier subscription or signed agreement.

How allowances work
Section titled “How allowances work”Allowances are shared by your organization. Adding clients does not add allowance. Monthly subscribers receive the amounts above each billing month. Prepaid annual subscribers receive 12 times each monthly consumable allowance upfront, covering the paid year, with no monthly refills. The pool resets only when the next paid year starts; unused annual allowance does not roll into the next year. Existing completed work and in-progress reservations from the same paid year are deducted, not erased.
For example, annual Starter includes 240 content projects, 240 page audits, 24 site audits, 24 local and brand audits, 3,000 Google checks, and 120 Local Pack scan units for the paid year. Annual Agency and Agency Pro apply the same 12-times rule to their monthly consumable amounts. Billing shows the annual totals, usage and reset date.
Active tracked AI queries, tracked Google keyword slots, workspace/team limits, per-project revisions, active automations, request-rate limits and short-term operational safeguards do not multiply by 12. A 12-month commitment paid in monthly installments still receives monthly allowances. Trials retain their separate limited allowance until paid conversion. Existing credit-based annual plans keep their already-upfront annual credits and their purchased terms.
Active tracking slots do not reset monthly. Pausing a report frees its active tracking slot and preserves its saved history.
One tracked AI query is one saved topic report across its included AI platforms. Google keyword slots are counted by keyword, location and language. A Google check covers one keyword/location check; pagination within that check does not count again. Manual, baseline and scheduled checks use the same purchased monthly or annual pool. An additional explicit-city check uses another check.
A Local Pack scan of up to 25 grid points uses one scan unit. A 7×7 grid uses two units; a 9×9 grid uses four.
A content project covers one saved new page or refresh, with two AI revisions. Manual edits and exports remain available. A failed attempt or retry of the same work does not consume another successful deliverable. Work in progress reserves capacity; Billing shows it separately. Reaching a limit stops new work while preserving work you have saved.
Change, pause or cancel
Section titled “Change, pause or cancel”Open Billing to change your existing subscription. An upgrade requires successful payment before higher allowances apply. A lower plan starts after your paid period; pause enough active reports to fit that plan before scheduling the change. You can remove a pending change from Billing.
Monthly self-serve purchases are month-to-month. Cancel in Billing to stop renewal; access continues through the paid period. Annual purchases are prepaid for a year. Turn annual renewal off in Billing to stop the next renewal while keeping access through the paid year. Turning renewal off does not itself issue a refund.
The cancellation flow asks for a short reason and offers an optional comment. You can choose Prefer not to say. It may show one relevant option, such as a smaller plan, a 30- or 60-day monthly pause, or setup help. A feedback-save failure does not prevent cancellation. Requesting help does not change your renewal or cancellation choice.
A monthly pause starts at the end of your paid period. Review its start and resume dates before confirming. During the pause, billing collection and new work are paused; saved data stays available. Annual purchases use renewal opt-out instead of a pause offer.
Request included onboarding, campaign planning or annual Inner Circle access in Billing → Included services. Requests create a support record; support arranges the session or membership and records delivery. A request is not a completed session or an activated external membership.
Existing signed agreements
Section titled “Existing signed agreements”An earlier signed or account-managed agreement keeps its purchased price, allowances, services and cancellation rules. Contact your account manager using the existing agreement controls. A cancellation request is not confirmation that the agreement has ended. No existing member is automatically moved to the new self-serve package.
Earlier packages on existing accounts
Section titled “Earlier packages on existing accounts”The following Starter, Core, and Team packages include unlimited users. Their tracked-prompt, workspace, and AI-platform allowances differ from the packages advertised on the public pricing page.
| Plan | Active tracked prompts | Brand workspaces | AI platforms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 60 | 1 | ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Claude |
| Core | 125 | 3 | adds Google AI Overviews and Perplexity |
| Team | 250 | 10 | adds Gemini, Grok, and Copilot |
The earlier packages shown above also include Google Search, local, and video tracking, your choice of daily, weekly, or monthly monitoring for each tracked prompt, scheduled tracking, and Agent API and MCP access. Do not use this table to infer the entitlements of a new subscription.
If you need more than ten brand workspaces, Billing links you to Support so the arrangement can be set up for you.
Older Agency subscriptions keep the allowances and terms they were bought with, as do subscriptions bought under earlier Starter, Core, or Team packaging. The advertised Agency package is a separate offer; sharing a name does not change an existing subscription or its purchased terms.
Billing shows the exact allowances, enabled-platform count, and full platform list for your own subscription, including any paid platform add-ons. Read it there rather than inferring coverage from this table or a plan name. For what each surface measures, see Supported tracking platforms.
Tracked prompts are counted as an active total, not a lifetime one. Billing shows the current figure against your limit, and Tracker shows where a new report would leave you before you start tracking it. Pausing or removing a report returns its allowance.
Add an AI platform without changing plan
Section titled “Add an AI platform without changing plan”A current subscription can add any AI platform its base plan does not already include. Billing shows every supported platform, marking each one Enabled or Available to add:
- Open Billing and find AI platforms.
- Select Add platforms or choose a tile labeled Available to add.
- Choose the platform. Billing shows the add-on price for your monthly or yearly billing interval.
- Review the proration and new recurring subscription total, then confirm the change.
Each selected platform adds one paid platform unit to the same subscription. Access is enabled after the required payment succeeds. If Stripe needs another payment step, Rankability opens the hosted invoice and keeps access pending until it is resolved. A subscription that is still trialing can add a platform without an immediate charge; the add-on becomes part of the recurring subscription.
To remove a paid platform add-on, select its enabled tile in Billing and confirm the removal. A platform included with the base plan cannot be removed individually. Changing plan or billing interval preserves paid platform add-ons unless the new base plan already includes one of them.
Protected legacy plans
Section titled “Protected legacy plans”Subscriptions bought before the current packaging keep the price and the client or workspace terms they were sold, and can track every supported AI platform. Billing marks these with a Grandfathered badge and shows that the existing price is protected. Rankability does not convert a protected subscription to current plan terms automatically. Billing summarizes what the subscription currently includes as its tracked prompts, workspaces, and enabled AI platforms, so you can read the effective allowances rather than infer them from the plan name.
When a protected subscription is billed at an applicable in-app base price, its tracked-prompt, workspace, and AI-platform allowances are raised to at least that in-app plan’s allowances. Terms already better are kept as they are. A fixed-term or individually agreed contract keeps the terms in that agreement instead. The advertised website packages do not automatically migrate an existing subscription.
Moving a protected subscription to a higher plan no longer gives those terms up. An ordinary grandfathered subscription keeps its workspace access and its access to every supported AI platform, and takes the higher plan’s tracked-prompt allowance. Billing says so before you change plans and confirms the exact allowances you will have afterwards. A custom or individually agreed contract is outside this rule and keeps the terms in that agreement.
Do not start a new checkout to correct protected terms. Contact support with the organization and invoice details instead.
Pooled usage instead of credits
Section titled “Pooled usage instead of credits”Paid accounts do not manage a credit wallet or action-by-action prices. On-demand activity is pooled across the organization and shown as remaining percentages for rolling 24-hour and 7-day windows. Rankability keeps this indicator out of the way while usage is healthy.
If an on-demand window reaches its limit, new on-demand work pauses with a recovery time. Older activity continuously rolls out of the window, so capacity returns automatically. Work already saved remains available.
Scheduled work is protected
Section titled “Scheduled work is protected”Routine scheduled tracking and monitoring are recorded separately from on-demand work and are not blocked by the on-demand windows. Provider quotas, request-rate controls, concurrency safeguards, and abuse protections can still apply independently.
API and MCP
Section titled “API and MCP”The Agent API and hosted MCP connection use the same plan entitlement and pooled usage as the web application. GET /api/agent/v1/usage and get_usage_and_limits return percentage windows and recovery times rather than credit prices. Copywriter Core remains a separate product with completed-outcome allowances.
Change or cancel a subscription
Section titled “Change or cancel a subscription”- Choose a plan card and monthly or yearly interval directly in Billing. Review the in-app confirmation before Rankability updates the existing Stripe subscription; active customers are not sent through first-purchase checkout to create another subscription.
- Invoices opens Stripe billing management for receipts and payment details, then returns full-platform customers to Billing.
- Use the cancellation controls in Billing to stop renewal. Access continues through the paid period shown there, and a Resume subscription control appears while a cancellation is scheduled.
The Billing confirmation and any Stripe-hosted payment page are authoritative for a new charge, proration, or recurring total. Review them before confirming, especially when leaving protected legacy terms.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- You cannot add another brand workspace — Check the workspace allowance for your plan in Billing. Protected subscriptions use their existing terms instead of a plan cap.
- You cannot track another prompt — You are at your active tracked prompt allowance. Pause or remove a report you no longer need, or change plan.
- An AI platform is unavailable in setup — Open Billing. The platform may be available as a paid add-on, or you can compare a plan that includes it. A platform remains unavailable until any required add-on payment succeeds.
- A newly added platform is still unavailable — Finish the hosted invoice or payment action if one was shown, then return to Billing. Access is not granted from a failed or incomplete payment.
- A removed platform still looks enabled — Refresh Billing once. The add-on list from Billing is authoritative; contact support if the removed platform remains after Stripe finishes the change.
- On-demand work is paused — Open Billing to see which rolling window reached its limit and when capacity begins returning.
- Scheduled work did not run — Check the project schedule, connection health, and provider or queue status; scheduled work does not consume the on-demand window.
- Your legacy terms look different — Do not start a new checkout. Existing subscriptions are protected; contact support with the organization and invoice details.
- The Stripe total is unexpected — Do not confirm the change. Compare the plan and interval you selected against the summary, then contact support.
