# Serena sources and data connections

Give Serena reliable client context with sources, website content, and connected performance data.

## Sources and connections are different

* **Sources** give Serena reference material such as website pages, supported files, pasted text, and YouTube content.
* **Connections** give Rankability authorized access to supported services such as GSC, GA4, GBP, and other integrations shown in client settings.

## Manage sources

1. Select a client and open **Settings**.
2. Choose **Sources**.
3. Add or review the available source types.
4. Confirm that the source belongs to this client and contains information Serena should use.

Website setup can create initial client context automatically. Add sources manually when the site blocks crawling, important material is not public, or Serena needs a specific reference.

## Manage connections

1. Open **Settings → Integrations**.
2. Choose the service.
3. Authorize the requested access.
4. Select the correct account, site, property, or profile.

Connection availability and property choices depend on the signed-in Google or service account. Reconnect when authorization expires or the selected property changes.

## Data freshness

Connected data is not always instantaneous. Check the connection status and the date range before treating a missing metric as zero.

## Privacy boundary

Sources and connections belong to the selected client context. Confirm the client before uploading private material or authorizing an account.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.rankability.com/serena/advisor-knowledge-base-and-data-connections.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
